Agia Sofia

Two steps from the 8th-century church of the same name and from the Tsimiski shopping streets.

The station takes its name from one of the city's most important churches, standing just a few metres away.

Get off here for

  • Hagia Sophia, an 8th-century church with remarkable mosaics and one of the city's fifteen Palaeochristian and Byzantine monuments on the UNESCO list.
  • Panagia Acheiropoietos, a 5th-century basilica a few minutes north.
  • Tsimiski, Thessaloniki's main shopping street.
  • Aristotelous Square and the seafront, walking down toward the water.

Where it puts you

In the heart of the centre. From here almost everything is walkable: markets, monuments, cafés and the sea are all within a fifteen-minute walk.

Good to know

It's the handiest station for shopping in the centre, because it leaves you between Egnatia and Tsimiski, the two great parallel axes.
