Getting Around Thessaloniki

Good news for visitors: Thessaloniki is largely walkable. The historic centre, the market, Aristotelous and the seafront are all comfortably covered on foot, so you usually don't need a car in the city.

Metro

The city's first metro line is in operation, crossing the city with modern, driverless trains: the fastest option along the central axis, with no traffic.

Buses

An extensive urban bus network connects the neighbourhoods, Ano Poli and the suburbs (e.g. Kalamaria). Handy for climbs such as up to the Upper Town.

Taxis & apps

Easy to find, in the characteristic blue-and-white livery; ride-hailing apps also operate.

Cycling & walking

The waterfront has a cycle path and is perfect for a ride or run by the sea.

To/from other cities

The city is linked by train and intercity buses (KTEL) to Athens and northern Greece, and by Makedonia Airport (SKG).
