Aretsou & Nea Krini
At the southern edge of Kalamaria, Aretsou is where the city meets the sea again, in a quieter way than the Nea Paralia.
Character & history
Nea Krini was built by refugees who came from Krini (Çeşme) in Asia Minor; hence the name. Today the area has a distinctly Mediterranean, almost island-like feel around the marina.
What to see & do
- Aretsou Marina with its moored sailing boats, perfect for an evening stroll.
- The seaside promenade, more relaxed and family-oriented than the centre.
- Cafés and tavernas looking across the Thermaic Gulf to Mount Olympus.
Why come
It's where locals go for a quiet coffee by the water, away from the noise of the centre, with the sun setting behind Olympus.
Getting around
By bus or car from the centre; Kalamaria is also connected to the metro network.
Best for: sunsets, seafood, a relaxed walk by the water.
