Panorama

East of the centre, Panorama sits high on the hill and looks out over the whole of Thessaloniki spread beneath it. It is one of the city's quietest and most expensive suburbs.

Character

Strictly residential, with detached houses, tree-lined streets and noticeably cooler air in summer. Locals drive up here for a walk, a coffee with a view, and the sweet the area is famous for.

What to see & do

• The view from the square and the surrounding roads, especially striking at sunset and after dark.
• Trigona Panoramatos, the local sweet of custard in crisp pastry that was born here and became known across Greece.
• Walking and cycling on the quiet roads and up toward Chortiatis.

Staying & eating

Fewer options than the centre, but calmer ones: tavernas with a view and cafés that fill up at weekends.

Getting around

You'll need a car or a bus: roughly 20–30 minutes from the centre depending on traffic.

Best for: views, quiet, a family outing and something sweet.
